Pain Management Centre,
Kamineni Hospitals, Kingkoti,
Greetings from Kamineni Hospitals, Kingkoti, Hyderabad, Telangana. Everyone is excited about the first anniversary of Telangana state formation & why not ? But if we look at health indices of newly formed state lot of things are staring at us. With little over 3.5 crores population (census 2011) atleast 20% of adults are suffering from pain of some known or unknown origin. The economic and social impact is unimaginable. With 9 out of 10 districts of the state declared backward (backward regions grant fund programme 2009-10) & add to it endemic fluorosis, arid regions & the economy mainly driven by agriculture, the situation is grim. But every cloud has silver lining, in this regard we would like to bring it to your attention, we have bee working for years to relieve the pain & suffering so that the population can lead a productive life style. We bring forth our efforts in this regard.
The day-to-day pain problems are managed by treating the cause for pain like wrong position, wrong posture, wrong gait, essentially modifying life style. Next step will be to increase the pain threshold by using pain relief medications. The last but not the least step is to interrupt the pain pathways. These are the common principles on which pain is managed. One should consult Pain Consultant if pain has been there for more than 2-3 months and hampering your day today activities. He helps in evaluating your problem, identifying the source of pain, initiating appropriate treatment, modification of life style, physical conditioning etc. Sometimes he might undertake certain interventions to make patients better.
Long standing pain in any one’s life contributes to lot of social and family dysfunction. Lot of mental and physical suffering leads to lack of peace of mind. Many people tend to take extreme steps in life in view of unrelieved pain. In this current era of escalating healthcare costs, the costly, extensive non-productive workups and treatment leads nowhere. Worst to follow is morbidity costs both from patient’s and attendant’s point of view.
There is no shortcut for managing pain; preventive measures are always better than curative aspects. There is no need to panic for treatment, as there are enough options for countering pain problems. Please be in touch with us to serve you better.
It is clear that unrelieved pain is a global health problem and on an increased and increasing scale in developing countries. Chronic pain destroys the quality of an individual’s life and there is an overwhelming case that pain treatment should be a basic human right.
